Susanne Meyer

Susanne Meyer has joined the Austrian Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology in 2021 as Special Officer for Transformative Innovation Policy and Missions. She is responsible for the strategic and thematic portfolio management of applied research in Austria and the implementation of transformative mission policies for climate neutrality in cities, energy transition, mobility transition and circular economy. Prior to that she worked at the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology at the Center for Innovation Systems & Policy (2013-2021) conducting research in the field of transformative R&I policies for urban and energy transition with good understanding of the European and transnational context. During that time, Susanne Meyer was seconded to the Austrian Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology in 2013-2015. She was responsible for the development of national research policies, agendas and programmes in the area of Smart Cities. She was a Policy Coordinator in the JPI Urban Europe and Co-coordinator of the ERA-NET Smart Cities and Communities to ensure alignment of national Smart City policies with the European Commission and other European Countries. Prior to joining AIT Susanne worked for Joanneum Research POLICIES in Austria (2010-2013) gaining experience in the evaluation of research and innovation governance systems, policies and programmes – at European and national level. Before she was a research assistant and lecturer at the Institute of Economic and Cultural Geography at the Leibniz University of Hannover (Germany), where she graduated with a PhD in economic geography (2006-2009).
